Mumbai sets up for Ganesh visarjan: Celebrating the end of festivities.

Ganesh chaturthi is celebrated with great devotion all over India. People bring home idols of Lord Ganesha and celebrate the festival by worshiping the Lord in a special way. The idol may be brought for a day and a half, 5 days, 7 days or 11 days depending on the family tradition.
The excitement of Ganpati visarjan is simply overwhelming. It brings people of different castes and religion together. On the evening of the last day of the festival, every Ganpati idol is accompanied by hundreds of people who march together; chanting “Ganpati Bappa Mourya”; men, women and children dancing to the loud music and beating of the dhols (drums), bollywood songs, bhajans and live music bands playing foot tapping songs vied for attention. Some mandals even have troupes performing.
People gather in groups offering final puja before offering adieu to the lord, distributing prasad to everyone and chanting “Ganpati bappa mourya pudchya varshi lavkar ya”. With Bursts of gulal in the air by the devotees, Ganeshji’s idols are taken to the sea for immersion. People go as far as possible in the waters to immerse the idols they worshipped for these many days.
To control such a large crowd of people, this year, security has been tightened and 25,000 policemen have been deployed across Mumbai. The BSF and SRPF have also stepped in.
Over 350 lifeguards have been stationed at major immersion spots and 37 watch towers have been erected to monitor the immersion. So this year promises a safe Ganpati Visarjan  in the city.

SURVIVING PROGRESS...2012

This title seems very ironical for progress is a very positive word and why would anyone need to ‘survive’ it. This was exactly what I thought before seeing the video.

Now, a simple question- What is progress?

It is about a change, or more so, a positive change. But today, progress is often referred to a positive short term change without considering its implications in the long run. And this type of progress which does not take into consideration the future perils is what is called a Progress trap’.

Different countries...Different people...Different thinking...that is where it all starts; where progress meter goes up at a point,we ought to find out the other side which is burdened down of its impacts and so just following the race to progress would actually be progress trap & not progress in real terms..!!

The video begins by explaining the crucial difference that separates other animals (chimpanzees used in the experiment) from humans and it can be concluded that humans always tend to look into into things by asking the question why...which is the reason they progress to a great extent!

Civilization is an important part of the progress but it makes us think whether in the name of civilization are we falling into a progress trap? The world population is growing at a rapid pace today and there is a big question as to how much really can our planet sustain.

The film explains the dangers of debt which if uncontrolled can lead to problems as is happening in some countries today eg : Brazil, Argentina as per historical data. Most importantly, the video highlights the excessive and unrestricted use of natural resources by humans without considering its long term impact.

An example is given of deforestation where a timber mill is forced to shut down whereas the real culprits of deforestation are the men in power & the influential people who are blinded by the progress trap.

Humans today are running after ‘progress’ without bothering about the future because of the belief that technology will solve all the problems, which in fact have been created by technology itself.

Even small things like using less electricity, avoiding wastage of water, usage of cars for short distance, etc can help a lot in minimizing the existing problems. It is important to ensure that we must create progress within the limits the planet EARTH provides,so that it is a sustainable home not only for us, but also for our future generations....!!!

LEARNING GUITAR !!............................14th sept 2012..

                LEARNING GUITAR !!

Being a music buff I always used to follow various bands & was especially fascinated by the GUITAR..!!

I always wanted to be that rock-star in front of the stage enthralling the audience & learning the guitar was always high on my wishlist but somehow it never really worked out.

So, to much of my surprise when it did happen I readily took the opportunity & went for my 1st session of learning the guitar. I was nervous but also really excited to play that instrument, I just wanted to get my hands on the guitar, so after learning about the basic strings & notes when I took the guitar in my hands and pulled the strings for the 1st time, it was a very special moment *big smile*.

The 1st session was really good & I know its just the start of a journey thats going to be real fun...;) Looking forward to the experience...:).....!!
